My New Home
It all started with wanting a new home. We originally were interested in building a home for Canadian Cedar. It was to be a show home for them with cost plus %10. Things went really bad when I was crunching the numbers and we then decided to build a house for ourselves.
The problem off the start was getting a set of blue print and getting the town to agree to the way we wanted to build
I have never done this before but tackled the project, here is what I had come up with for plans.

I wanted 1/2 the house to be able to be lit with one really efficient fluorescent light. So far it works extremely well and it is really inexpensive to keep a light on, and it works all the way down the hall way for the other half of the house.
The whole house is designed for Gas/Power efficiency, as well as comfort. The garage floor as well as the basement inside have a floor heat system. I have a hot water heater to run this system and it works extremely well. While building the basement for the house we insulated the floor with 1" Styrofoam first before the concrete. This hurt a bit because I did not plan it with the original plans and we paid for it our of our pay checks. Dalin our plumber had told us if we didn't do this we would be not as happy. Man it hurt but Dalin was right. The concrete will heat .2 degrees C every five minutes right now. It takes 20 minutes to circulate the hot water, then the pump shuts off, and within 1 hour the concrete will raise 4 degrees C. Man that's fast for floor heat. The best part is it only takes 45 - 50 watts of power to run, much better than the 500 - 800 (2-stage) watt furnace !
It took 3 1/2 months to complete this project, we were challenged by the weather all the way. Snow, Wind, Rain. And Rain, rain. The big floods we had in this area did allot of damage to local houses and contractors started to get a bit scarce as they were all busy.

A write-up of the insulation used my home is sound proof. The inside walls have also been insulated and this helps with noise inside the home.
