for a CPU you cant beat the price and performance you get out of a $100CAN AMD CPU. Looks like Intel messed up AGAIN with the P4 HERE, My CPU is faster than the PIII 1GhZ with 256cache at a fraction of price.
I am awaiting the Super ORB and Copper Shim for my CPU, I will let you know how it works for CPU temp when I get it.
Well I got the super orb, it is a pain in the but. I cracked my core so I then bought another DURON, cracked another core than I realized that the heat sink had a bump in it right where the core was. I then filed, sanded and polished the bottom, also getting rid of the ridge on the bottom of the super orb. Now I can also use my copper shim.
The super orb and copper shim now keeps my CPU ten degrees colder. Now I have hit the 1125 MHz mark with a DURON 700, and stable. Under load CPU hits 51 degrees max. And this is with my damaged CPU ! AMD RULES !
OK, I have tried an Alpha Cooler, hand lapped the bottom and now my CPU will only hit 51 degrees under full load with an ambient temperature of 28 degrees. Core voltage is at 2.19. I did use the artic silver heat sink compound also. Way better cooling even with my core voltage as high as 2 volts.
My advice for what its worth
Do not bother with an Super Orb Unless you like to roll on and crack the core, not worth the grief, but it does look cool, if that's what you want.
Also I think recently the high end T-Birds are capable of over clocking at much greater rates. 1000 MHz and above. Must be a new production run so I am going to wait 6 months till the old ones clear off the market to buy a 1000 MHz and hopefully hit 1300 plus. They start with a B instead of an A on the chip. Look for AXIA as the starting numbers from what others are saying, but check here to be sure. CPU Database for overclockers.
