Automatic Car Starter for HomeSeer
This idea works GREAT! What I did is took the adapters off the wireless camera's that I had ordered from www.x10.com as I hardwired the camera's anyways, so the adaptors kicked around for some time. These will be perfect because they are simple, you put your house code, unit code on it, and it will turn off or on with the X10 commands. If you don't have access to one of these you can use a normal appliance module, or plug and just plug an adaptor into it. It will have to be 12VDC at 200mah or around there for current.
I took a command start remote control and placed a jumper across the start button making it active at all times. were the battery normally goes on the remote I then wired the white+ and the copper- to the adapter you are going to use.
The RED is not switched on the camera adaptors, if you have these to use, so use the white and the black.
When I want the truck to start I have HomeSeer send an ON command, then 20 seconds later send OFF. The transition between the two is just enough to kick the sequence to the command start to begin its own starting and running cycle. To do this just program an event to do the ON and the OFF with 20 sec delay. Then just activate your event how you wish.
The best part of all of this is because HomeSeer reads the weather into its own devices, I base an automatic start on temperature, time, and working day. This way my truck is always warmed up when it is cold enough to justify it, without even thinking about it I just get up and go to work.
The next best thing about this is my voice activated command. When I am leaving for somewhere I just tell my computer to start my truck. The LED I had added so I could always quickly inspect it for on or off, because when you first plug it in it wants to default to ON. Its an 470 ohm resister you see there on the LED due to the 12VDC being supplied from the adapter.
This is a great project, and way too easy. I have not had any problems with this at all. Make sure you keep your vehicle tuned so it will always start, but who wouldn't with these gas prices!
