My little town FREAKED out

Backwards Ville FREAKED

Don't think my little town didn't freak out.  They sent a letter saying that I had to take my windmill down because I was in violation of a bi-law.  what a crock.  Its only 30 feet high at this point.  when I asked what bi-law they stated "misuse of land".  This is strange, a pole 2 inches large, in the ground is misuse?  How about the gardens in my town, would that not be agricultural inside of residential?  Same deal if you are going to split hairs like that, but really, there is nothing in the town bi-laws to state a pole in the ground, under 32 feet is not allowed, in fact it states up to 32 feet would be.

well after many meetings, and much wasted effort we got a new town council.  I was a little disappointed with this because now I had to start all over again.  By now I already had what I needed and also an ace in the hole, but after one meeting with the new council, they saw everything they needed to, and gave me a permit.

One of the steps in this process was to send a letter to my neighbors.  this was the old council that did this, but not one person within a two block radius objected to my project, in fact they all were coming to me and telling me about the letter they received from the town, and how they thought my project was very cool.

We are lucky we have a town council now that is trying to work with new ideas.  There is so much incentive in Canada for alternative resources.  With the big push for cleaner environment, and further development for alternative resources, you would think more little towns would be very interested in the government sponsored programs that are available.  I told the town council, "You guys should not be trying to stop me, but rather looking into a wind project for the town, as it could be supplying power to offset the costs of streetlights."

A few things that really stands in my mind from the old council are as follows.   One of them stated to me "I wouldn't want one of those things in my neighbors back yard".  I had stated "well that's like if I didn't like you having a garage, I would say that I didn't want you to build a garage in your back yard, just because I didn't like you having one."  or how about this one "What if everyone starts putting up windmills?".  I said "So what, and with everything that is happening, they just might, are you going to stop them?  You would be better off deciding how you would accommodate the future".  I suggested what might be better is to regulate the quality of installs, and to limit the size and height of windmills for residential use.  Here is another brilliant question "what if we have a hurricane, would your windmill be safe".  I stated "if you have a hurricane, I am sure my windmill will not be the biggest concern, you will have larger issues".  What a bunch of idiots! or rather a majority, I did have two on council that were really good people and tried very hard themselves to do a good job, always to encounter the existing idiots.

You know, what might of been not so bad, if the ones that objected actually had valid points based on actual facts.  Instead they were just guys with no technical backgrounds, or any skills to really judge my project.  At one point I just had enough of stupid questions and I told them "Get an engineer, send him to my house, and I will talk with him and let him decide, because you are not experienced enough with this.  Also it will be your expense because it is your responsibility to prove its unsafe BEFORE you take action, not my responsibility to try to prove to unskilled people how it is safe, they would not even be able to understand half of what I say."

Good thing we have NEW council

Oh, get this

Now several people are putting up windmills, and now the town is considering one of their own.  Nice!
