TED

this is a unit so you can monitor your power usage in your home.  it uses a sending unit that you wire into your main breaker box, and once it is wired, you can take the other control panel and plug it into any AC plug and start using it.  It sends its data over your existing AC power, to the control.

I have just ordered one unit because it was on sale, so when I get it, I will review it and let you know how nice it is.

These guys seemed very friendly and helpful.  I did ask if this unit could interface into a computer, and they said NO, and it wont in the future, but they will have another model available mid summer 2006 for this.

the best part - they have it on sale for only $140.00 right now!

OK-now I got the unit, and its great!  it was so easy to install, check my experiences here

shipping was incredibly fast from these guys, and they were great on the phone to deal with for an order, I highly recommend that everyone gets one of these units.

Everything in the package, I was wondering if they included the sending unit also, but yes its a complete package, very professional.

Now to wire this thing, if you are not comfortable with working with electricity, get an electrician.  below is my breaker box, and yes I work with it live.  I am just careful.  I have always been very comfortable with electricity and know better.  I do suggest to get someone who knows how to wire.

This is probably the most dangerous, working around the mains into your breaker box, but here is the sensing units installed onto my mains.  This is great because they just clip around them.  They are the two black things on the top, with the red/black wires from them.

Now to wire the transmitting unit, First where the screw driver is, is the neutral buss, the bar with all your white wires from you house.  Mine is not tied with my earth ground due to using an inverter for my wind power, but still, it is my neutral.

The next step is to wire it to your supply, just connect the black wire to a dedicated breaker.  This feeds the data back into the wires in your home over the AC sine, like X10, but different freq.  They say that it will not affect X10 at all.  I auctually already have a phase coupler, so the signals should reach both phases in my home, but if you do not, the TED unit will only work with whatever you have that side wired to in your home.

Finished!

It works!  I had an issue at first, that it didnt work, and then (God forbid) I read the manual.  It had a part in it that you have to set the house code.  damn, soon as I did that, it worked.  This is so cool!

Now that its working, I will have to play with it, and program it better, it has all sorts of options!  you can program your costs so exact into this thing, with multiple tiers for billing.  It is very flexible for what it can do.  I will post more with time.

So far I love it.
