This test with the GPS system that we have designed was to determine the accuracies of both NovAtel's RT-20 receiver board and also Ashtech's GG24 receivers.
While we were testing accuracies we also tested a total remote control system where the remote unit would not require any setup, changes, or whatever from the unit itself, but once it was powered up, everything could be done from a remote site, which in this case is also the Base Reference station with a fixed position.
Most GPS systems used today will have the Reference station logging data with the corrections, and then also have a computer on the mobile logging the data from the receiver. After all the data is collected they will take both computer data and Post-process the data using the corrections to calculate accurate positions.
